Asta Philpot Foundation: Beyond appearances – The diversity song
Director: Pierre Edelmann
Creative Director: Alasdhair MacGregor HastieThierry Buriez
Art Director: Rémy Fournigault
Copywriter: Joris Vigouroux

Agency BEING France and the Asta Philpot Foundation encourage you to look beyond appearances in an inspiring and surprising new film that challenges the way we look at people. “Beyond Appearances The diversity song” is a series of portraits of supposed outcasts, and aligns wrong first impressions because you shouldn’t judge a book by its cover! If you think I’m too fat to be hot, or too old to party, if you think Iâm different because of the color of my skin, or I’m boring because I wear ties, then think again! Open your mind or you can kiss my ass!
All the protagonists of the film were volunteers eager to spread Asta Philpotâs message of diversity, positivity and empowerment. They were cast for their differences, which they were willing to affirm proudly.
The catchy original score, composed by famous singer Ben Von Looy, of the Flemish band Das Pop, is a reference to typical cool, Rat Pack crooners melodies, with lyrics written by BEING France. The haunting melody was composed to suggest to listeners that the singer himself is a âclichéâ, a handsome guy with a soft, soothing voice, only to discover at the end that it is Asta Philpot singing, who you didnât picture as your obvious crooner. Asta Philpot is affected with arthrogryposis, which impairs his physical ability of movement.
For this inspiring campaign, BEING France chose to work with director Pierre Edelmann, whose sense of photography and authenticity allowed him to magnify the diversity and differences of the protagonists of the film.

Tommaso Caldera

Tull Lamp, 2014 Tommaso Caldera

Created for italian-based company Incipit, ‘Tull’ by Tommaso Caldera is a reinterpretation of classical workshop suspension lamps, in which the light source is protected by a wire netting attached to a metal diffuser. In homage to its predecessor, spun aluminum forms the shade for the diffuser and curved steel wires bend for the protective cage. The innovation of the lighting system appears through its shape, language, and proportions, which allow the object to be transferred from rugged and industrial warehouses to calm and domestic living spaces. the result is a design characterized by a smooth shell enclosed by continuously curving loops that house a single bulb. via designboom.com

Sayit – H&M Life, 2014
Director : Sandberg & TimonenKacper Kasprzyk

Music : Sayit – Röyksopp & Robyn’s joint Do It Again album
Stylist : Ellen Af Geijerstam
Makeup : Ignacio Alonso
Hair : Darren Phillips
Model : RöyksoppRobyn

Röyksopp & Robyn’s first collaboration was a bittersweet song about how difficult it is to date a machine. The Girl and the Robot became the big hit from Röyksopp’s 2009 album Junior. One year later they worked together on the minimalistic club bangerNone of Dem on Robyn’s album Body Talk Pt. 1. Now the techno wunderkinds from Tromsø have joined forces with the pop icon from Stockholm once more. The mini album Do it Again is full of goosebump-inducing hooks and mind expanding synthetic sounds.
The Swedo-Norwegian super group also share an interest in fashion. The outfits worn by Svein Berge and Torbjørn Brundtland (top hats, feather masks, furry monster heads with fluorescent eyes) have been as quirky as their songs. And Robyn’s bomber jackets, neon sparkling hoodies and platform sneakers have helped shape the street fashion of the 2010’s.
The Sayit video is directed by the Swedish design team Sandberg & Timonen and makes its exclusive premiere on H&M Life. It’s set in a cold industrial environment amongst car wrecks, barbed wire and angry dogs. Röyksopp’s faces are covered by hoods. Robyn wears a spooky dress.

Cupidiculous, 2014
Panop Koonwat

Music : Henry Homesweet
Sound design : Narin Kongkatavaethita
Cupidiculous(2014) is a motion graphic project fusing 2D cel-animation and 3D techniques together. It conveys a humor story about Cupid, who makes Adam and Eve fall in love. But this act of love leads to overpopulation, overconsumption and global warming. So he has to find the way to fix these problems. Most characters and elements have been done in 3D but rendered as 2D flat vector look with poppy pastel, splashy and heightened color schemes. Then added more 2D liquid speed lines by drawing frame by frame. Even though laughter is the major objective, but Cupidiculous also delivers critical messages covertly. More or less audiences will get that with absolutely enjoyment.

Pizza’s great. Delivery pizza’s even better. But sometimes, your pie resembles something thrown together by a two-year-old with an artistic flair rather than anything edible. That’s because during the delivery process, pizzas get thrown about inside the metal container that sits atop the delivery scooter. To solve the problem, Domino’s Brazil and agency ArtPlan created “Steady Pizza.” The system uses two “hemispheres” fixed on X and Y axes, with pendulums of lead to compensate for the movement of the bike. That keeps the balance of the pizza, and saves your pie from demolition. via creativity-online.com

Abyss Table, 2014 Christopher Duffy

With multiple layers of stacked glass and wooden slices, Duffy London has built ‘the abyss table’, replicating the dramatic depths of an indigo ocean. the design creates a geological cross-section of the sea, completing the table as a 3-dimensional model of a geological map. ‘I was looking into sheets of thick glass at my glass manufacturer’s factory, and noticed how the material darkened as they added more layers – the same way the sea does as it deepens.’ Designer Christopher Duffy describes ‘I wanted to use this effect to replicate a real piece of the earth’s sea bed. like a mythical power had lifted a perfect rectangle straight from the earth’s crust to use as his personal ornament.‘ traditional to the design studio’s aesthetic, the furniture piece acts as both a conversation piece as much as it does a functional one. via designboom.com

Materials and Techniques: Gelatin-silver print

Richard Avedon has transformed fashion photography and portraiture alike, creating an instantly identifiable aesthetic which has influenced countless others. His ‘signature’ large format studio portraits of politicians, writers and artists render the sitters “symbolic of themselves”, as he put it. His use of stark white backgrounds and life-size printing places viewers in a new relationship to the photographic image – a physical and almost confrontational one. His ability to create visual tension and surprise through unexpected contrasts is unparalleled.

Bronze Age, 2014
Frank Tjepkema

Bronze Age, 2014 Frank Tjepkema

“As a reaction to the unstoppable digitalisation and virtualisation of all our basic needs, all the way to love and friendship, I feel an urge to produce work that is antagonistic to this trend.’ Says Frank Tjepkema, lead designer and founder of dutch studio Tjep. Set within the historic and ornately decorated ballroom of the colloredo mansfeld palace in prague, Tjep. Presents the bronze age collection for Designblok Prague 2014, with designboom in attendance. The series embodies both sculptural and utilitarian principles: stability, strength, durability and sustainability, in that it can be melted and reused. each sensually formed piece is a manually intensive work, formed from the very material that represents the dawn of civilization: bronze. via designboom.com

+++ KICKSTARTER

The Mister

The Mister is an Internet-of-Things device that improves the efficiency of residential A/C units by up to 30%. The resulting increase in capacity allows the system to cool the home more quickly each cycle, as well as consume less power while operating. Comprised of a group of engineers formerly in the oil industry, The Mister bucks the local trend by offering a product that allows homeowners to decrease their carbon footprint, and save money in the process.
