As maison et objet‘s ‘designer of the year’ 2015, Nendo unwraps a sweet chocolate lounge on the occasion of the international fair which takes place twice a year in paris. The spatial design of ‘chocolatetexture’ is defined by a forest of 2000 8mm-thick aluminium pipes which have been painted in chocolate-coloured gradations, to create the feeling of being surrounded by a large rippling molten wave of the delectable goodness. Within, a number of the japanese designer’s known pieces for such companies as cappellini, desalto, emeco, glas italia, moroso and offecct, which have been custom-colored to resemble the sweet treat, furnish the lounge and offer a place for maison et objet visitors to take a rest. via designboom.com

Juicy Couture took its Spring campaign to Palm Springs to create a sun-soaked fantasy. Edita Vilkeviciute stars as the ultimate Juicy-beauty, clad in Carlyn Cerf de Dudzeele-styled body conscious prints and patterns as she poses poolside. The campaign comes to life in directors Tarik Malak and Timothy Douglas, Juicy Couture’s fashion film, utilizing RED camera and GoPro Hero4mixing “retro” and high-tech” methods, resulting in a vibrant range of color with striking shadows and highlight. GoPro Hero4 cameras and drones perfectly capture scenic aerial views. Shot in reverse video sequence, the Juicy girl is featured taking a selfie then hitting the desert road towards a glistening cerulean pool – while in reverse, actions throughout the video paradoxically feel right. Set to the hit track “I Ran,” by new-wave UK band Flock of Seagulls, the Spring 2015 video epitomizes the perfect “Couture Oasis.”

The store – located close to Hangzhou’s West Lake – is a 15-metre-high glazed box boasting a glowing ceiling, a cantilevered floor and glass staircases, and is one of Apple‘s largest retail outlets in Asia. According to Foster + Partners, the design “combines an understanding of the local context with the philosophy of simplicity, beauty and technical innovation that characterises Apple’s products”. via dezeen.com

Zipperbot, a robotic continuous closure for fabric edge joining, was developed to explore autonomous control of a sartorial gesture and performed as a wearable robot which was evaluated through social interactions. Clothing is a uniquely human pursuit and is nearly universal in its adoption and use. It plays a prominent role in our individual cultures transmitting a mixture of social signals and meanings through the semiotics of fashion. It is through this performance of assemblage of fabric surfaces we reconfigure ourselves and our identities. Merging robotics and fashion within the practice of Sartorial Robotics will enhance the explorations of identities for both humans and robots.

This is a real video performance which was shot on sunday the 3rd of november in “la plaine de la Crau”. A slow motion video, a sequence map with a traveling in front of 80 extras placed on 80 meters along a little road, lost in an industrial area. Filmed at 1000 frames/second with a camera (Phantom 4k) from a car driven at 50km/h, the shooting took 5 seconds for a 3’30 video: a living and dreamlike mural.

Blooms: Strobe-Animated Sculptures, 2015

These 3-D printed sculptures, called blooms, are designed to animate when spun under a strobe light. The placement of the appendages is determined by the same method nature uses in pinecones and sunflowers. The rotation speed is synchronized to the strobe so that one flash occurs every time the sculpture turns 137.5º—the golden angle. If you count the number of spirals on any of these sculptures you will find that they are always Fibonacci numbers. For this video, rather than using a strobe, the camera was set to a very short shutter speed (1/4000 sec) in order to freeze the spinning sculpture. John Edmark is an inventor/designer/artist. He teaches design at Stanford University.

Just outside the polish capital of Warsaw, Marcin Tomaszewski of local architecture practice Reform has created a dwelling that appears to float amid its woodland setting. Planted between the trees, ‘Izabelin House’ serves as a country retreat for a single family, occupying its plot with a minimum of disturbance to the natural terrain.
Formed of two horizontally configured volumes, the home’s lower storey is clad with reflective paneling. Consequently, these mirrored surfaces appear as an extension of the forest floor, with opaque areas stacked above. Large apertures present sweeping views of the property’s surroundings, while the design also comprises an area of sheltered decking at ground level. via designboom.com

The Amsterdam’s Rijksmuseum has recently exhibited the work of Dutch studio Drift : “Shylight”. It’s five kinetic suspensions of lights that mimics the organic movement of blooming flowers. The opening and closing of their “petals” depend on the darkness and the light.

Designed by los angeles-based practice Oyler Wu Collaborative, this renovated structure in taiwan features a torqued void that cuts through the southern façade of the building. Located on the future site of a 16-story residential tower (also designed by oyler wu collaborative), the developers were interested in restoring the existing corner building to become the sales center for the project. via @designboom

Japanese designer Mizuki Odashiro has presented ‘Tone’, a shelf that is made from lightweight tulle fabric. the colored material is attached to a simple metal frame with each shelf able to hold up to 5kg. The opaque shelves are fixed using 3m™ Dual Lock™ fasteners, which are much stronger than standard velcro. The fabric can easily be attached and removed so that it’s user can change the layout to their own requirements. ‘Tone’ was shown at the graduation show at Musashino Art University in Tokyo and is 1800 x 1040 x 400 mm in size. via @designboom

Showcased during Milan Design Week 2015 at nendo‘s solo exhibition, the seven door designs were presented to commemorate the 70th anniversary of Abe Kogyo, a prominent japanese manufacturer of timber front and interior doors, partitions, fixtures and custom-made furniture. each unique frame, stems from a straightforward wooden door design, where they have been cleverly manipulated and adapted from different concepts and techniques held by the company. From a lamp shade that protrudes from one side, to one that opens from a wall corner, all of which can be imagined in situ, integrated into people’s homes and everyday lives. The communique headquarters in Yongsan, Seoul houses a public relations firm with fifty staff, as well as an indoor-outdoor cafe, and rooftop event space. Australian animation studio Dropbear directed the Australian DJ Opiuo music video for his track “Quack Fat”. These images are made of Graphic Fonts ‘Silhouette’ which is a subproject of Grid. All letters and numbers are generated as 3d model. Therefore any words and messages are easy to be made.

NAP wants to detach itself from the rest of the current urban furniture and become a unique piece that identifies the city of Barcelona. This piece is settled in the urban environment temporarily and in specific spaces, which are considered controlled public spaces. NAP is assigned in particular to Diagonal, the sides of which are now cut off from traffic on sundays morning so that it might become a new area in the heart of Barcelona’s urban environment. There, the citizens may enjoy a peaceful stroll or take a rest, as well as convert it into a meeting point.

Directed by influential directing collective CANADA @lawebdecanada, with a nod to French new-wave cinema and Sixties science fiction, Ewers interacts with a series of selves all roaming the Barcelona cityscape. Think Barbarella wearing Gucci, then multiplied.

In this portfolio, inspired by the spring, models Ema McKie, Joy Corrigan @_joycorrigan and Jessica Cook @Jessicamcook leap into the California’s Tejon Ranch @tejonranch with the explosion of flowers in the fields. The highly stylized by Jessy Cain @Jessy_Cain, a hair by Tyron Dupre and makeup by Nicola Hamilton @nicolakhamilton.
